Rebel Moon Gets A More Honest Title & Tagline In Playful Poster

Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon receives a more honest title and tagline in a playful poster poking fun at its striking similarities to Star Wars.

Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon receives a more honest title and tagline in a playful poster. Originally conceived by Snyder as a more mature Star Wars movie which was rejected by Lucasfilm, Rebel Moon is an upcoming space opera that follows a mysterious woman named Kora (played by Sofia Boutella) who leads a rebellion against a tyrannical ruling force. The movie will be released on Netflix in two parts, subtitled A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, starting this December.

Ahead of Rebel Moon's release date, a new fan-made poster shared by @TheWeeklyPlanet on Instagram gives Snyder's sci-fi epic a more honest title and tagline. Check it out below:

The fan-made poster replaces the title with "Sexy Star Wars," echoing star Ed Skrein calling Rebel Moon "Star Wars with sex, violence, and swearing." It also replaces the original tagline, "War comes to every world," with "What if Star Wars but Star Wars was Dune but also Chronicles of Riddick."

While Rebel Moon's origins as a Star Wars movie have been well-documented and widely discussed, Snyder's sci-fi epic has several other notable influences. The director's original pitch to Lucasfilm was a more mature take on Star Wars inspired by the works of Akira Kurosawa, with Snyder calling it "Seven Samurai in space." Lucasfilm rejecting the pitch allowed Snyder to rework his idea into its own separate sci-fi universe and lean into its mature tone. Extended, R-rated cuts of Rebel Moon are already planned, for which Snyder says he was inspired by Terry Gilliam’s director’s cut of his 1985 film Brazil.

The fan-made Rebel Moon poster playfully highlights two more influences on the film. Though Snyder has never cited Dune specifically, Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel from 1965 predates Star Wars and undoubtedly influenced Rebel Moon. The Chronicles of Riddick also appears to have influenced Snyder's sci-fi epic, as the Rebel Moon trailer features shots of alien worlds using both extremes of color saturation. Snyder is a director who has drawn inspiration from a variety of sources throughout his career, so it's no surprise he's keeping this tradition alive with Rebel Moon.
