Nintendo fans go wild as new Switch console leaks early

NINTENDO fans are excited about a reliable leak that reveals information about a new Switch console ahead of its official announcement.

Reliable leaker and French site Dealabs editor billbil-kun has revealed in a post on Dealabs Magazine some juicy details about the new console model.

According to the leak, Nintendo is preparing to launch a new special edition of their Nintendo Switch OLED model.

The new limited-edition console variant will be themed around the upcoming 2D Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model – Mario Red Edition and official details about it should be unveiled tomorrow, August 31, 2023, at 3 p.m. UK time / 7 a.m. PT.

Nintendo has already announced a Direct broadcast about Super Mario Bros. Wonder which will start a that time.

Billbil-kun claims to have seen the design of the new OLED model variant, and he says it will feature two red Joy-Con and a red Switch Dock.

The leaker also points out that no other Mario-themed customizations, such as logos, characters or other design elements, will be featured on the device.

Moreover, the shade of red used seemed exactly the same as the one we’ve already seen on the right Joy-Con included with the classic Neon Blue/Neon Red version of the Switch OLED model.

The post also notes that some elements located on the back of the console, such as the volume control buttons, may also be red.

As per billbil-kun’s leak, the new console colour variant will be priced the same as existing standard Switch OLED models, which in France cost €349.99.

He also notes that some retailers in France will offer the model at a discounted price of €310, so Nintendo fans in the UK and US can hope for similar pre-order deals.

The leaker does not have an exact release date for the Mario Red Edition of the Switch, but since it’s timed for the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, he expects it to be out before October.

Nintendo usually starts shipping these special edition models a couple of weeks before the respective game’s release date.

For example, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition of the Switch OLED model launched on April 28, 2023, two weeks before the game’s release on May 12, 2023.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to release on October 20, 2023, so if the Mario Red Edition is indeed coming, a launch in late September or early October seems likely.

While billbil-kun is known for accurately revealing exclusive news in advance, we should always take leaks with a grain of salt.

Any information about a Mario Red Edition of the Switch OLED model is just a rumour until we see an announcement from Nintendo.

If the rumours are true, we shouldn't wait long for the official reveal, expected during tomorrow's Nintendo Direct at 3 p.m. UK time / 7 a.m. Pacific Time.
